So Facebook has added this cool new feature called Places. It allows you to update where you are, which can be extremely handy. Not only that, but it's accurate as well, for it will only allow you to update your location with a location that you are currently near to. Which means that it won't be used as a practical joke, because it will be impossible to register a location that your device is not currently near. Amazing innovation, right?
Wrong.
Because, not only can you update your location, but any of the people in your friends list can, too. And there isn't anything you can do about it after it gets posted. Sure, you'll be notified with a message, much like a notification that you have been tagged in someone's status, at which point, if you don't want that information on the web, you can untag yourself.
But the damage is already done.
Not only that, but anyone can see who is with you at that location, and you will be listed, even after you have untagged yourself. This feature can be foreseen to be used extensively by friends stalking each other, particularly ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends, to see where you are and who you're with.
If you are like me, and wish to keep your privacy to the best of your ability, I have included a walkthrough of how to block the Places feature from accessing your account, even through your friends.
If you wish to read a fuller, more in-depth article, I direct you here:
